The dolphin of Pulau Aman , Penang

As a kid growing up in penang , my late grandfather used to tell me story about frequent sighting of dolphin in penang . He used to told me that dolphin was quite common in the straits of penang in the 20’s to 50’s.I also remember him telling me how easy it was to spot turtle laying eggs at the beach . The most shocking things that he told me was the existence of crocodile inhabiting one of the estuary in bayan baru . Now the estuary had been replaced by a very big drain with a very foul stench of chemical waste from the nearby factory .

My late grandfather was born in penang in the early 20’s and from the early photograph of penang taken by him I could see that there is a significant different of penang back then compare to now . Penang back then was full with greenery and muddy beach around jelutong(where my grandfather grew up) back then was filled with white sandy beach .  I guess in future my grandchildren will be listening in disbelief that the area where their mom grew up used to be an area where TAPIR could be sighted roaming in the early hours by the roadside . There used to be road sign warning about tapir erected by the roadside but the tapir was long gone due to rapid development and I guess it was nearly impossible to see one . The last sighting of tapir which I had heard of was nearly 6 years back.

I was on my was to Pulau Aman in penang via boat from jetty batu musang when we encounter a school of dolphin from a distance of nearly 800meters from our boat . Being a smart and inquisitive creature , they start making their way to our boat and playfully circling our boat . Our boatmen was sporting enough to stop our boat to let the passenger marvel at the mammals. A journey of 15 minutes to pulau aman took us 40 minutes .   This is my first experience seeing a live dolphin in close up in penang , I guess most of you won’t believe my story if I don’t have a photo to prove it .Lucky I always bring my camera wherever I go and the below photo are the living proof of the existence of dolphin in Penang.I will blog about the attractions of pulau aman in my later post.

The White temple of chiang Rai-wat rhong khun

I had a chance to backpack in thailand recently . Honestly it was not backpack in a true sense as i had stayed in a 4 star hotel while in chiang mai .I was travelling alone via land from bangkok and along the way i had met a few interesting character with a different perspective about life.Met a man from slovenia who had been travelling alone around the globe doing volunteer works and finance his travel  through doing part time teaching english. Also i met a couple from france who are very friendly but have a very negative perception about islam and malaysia in general . I really love backpacking , it's by backpacking especially when you're travelling alone that you really push yourself to the limit , out there in a foreign country you have to be street smart to survive and to find your own way to the destination .its really and adrenalin rush for me and i guess i'm addicted to it , the only problem is time.
From chiang mai , i continue my journey to the golden triangle and enroute we had stop at the white temple of chiang rai - wat rong khun.It was located around 18 km from the town of chiang rai . The temple was very white and unlike other temple which i had visited , it had an element of contemporary design in it.The White Temple is a contemporary Buddhist and Hindu temple designed by Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat in 1997, although construction is still ongoing in the extensive complex. It is one of the most extraordinary temples i have ever see – extravagant, ornate and blindingly white.
what impress me the most is the toilet , i would say that it's the cleanest toilet in the world . It's so darn clean that You could literally sleep in it.

Taman Negara Pahang

It had been a while since i last update my blog . A lot of significant thing had been happening in my life for the past few month. To make long strory short , i'm glad that things had happen and i geuss that i need to make the best out of it.

The whole family went to taman negara recently , the decision to go there came out of the blue (as usual) and it was a very long , tiring but interesting journey. It took us nearly 4 hours to reach kuala tembeling which was the gateway to taman negara.

along the way , i have an expectation that my journey will be traversing a very thick and luscious jungle but the opposite thing had happen . All i see is just patches of jungle and oil plantation.Only after crossing sungai tembeling the visual of thick jungle perfectly match my expectation.

It was a very long journey for me , we reach there around 5pm and time is very limited for us to explore the area. We only explore the area around mutiara resort and subsequently had our dinner there which was very expensive. My kids really enjoy the boat ride and i vow to go there again but this time will be spending a few night there.
