Istana Kenangan @ Perak Royal Museum , Kuala Kangsar

myself and my niece

I was a bit frustrated to saw the gate to Istana Kenangan was closed on friday . Will definitely come again to see the royal artifacts displayed inside Istana Kenangan.
Istana kenangan is also known as Istana Lembah or Istana Tepas.Originally it was built as a temporary mausoleum for Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Iskandar shah, while awaiting the completion of Istana Iskandariah . The building has now been converted into the Perak Royal Museum that exhibits the history of the monarchy and houses the heritage of the Perak State and the personal collections of the sultans who once govern the state of Perak.
The building was built in 1926 and is unique in its local architecture for its design and fine built as well as its construction which was without the employment of a single nail. The plan or view from the top of the building shows the shape of a sword in its scabbard. The handle of the sword is where the sultan's bed chamber is located . The scabbard is the BALAI RONG SERI of the istana.Although small in size , it possesses a beautiful Sultan throne .The facade of the walls is made of diamond shaped plaits , while the structure of the roof is said to inherit the combined styles of the five ridges(perabung lima) and the ridge of a row of bananas(perabung pisang sesikat) .It original roof was made of wooden plank.

Laksa Kuala Kangsar

my parent

my niece

I had always love kuala kangsar. The town is well kept and quaint . These quality had made kuala kangsar a very unique place to visit . Obviously the royal family had a significant impact to the developement of the town.Almost everywhere you go in kuala kangsar you will feel that it had a royal touch. Kuala Kangsar is really a peaceful and laidback town.Time almost stand still here....

Tasik Raban , Lenggong,Perak

Currently i'm in my hotel room in Ipoh(Impiana Casuarina Hotel) . Just came back from xploring kuala kangsar and lenggong. The north south highway was pack and it took me 3 hours plus to get to Ipoh. I had plan to start my journey at 0900hrs after prayer but due to unforseen circumstances i had to start my journey at 1100hrs and arrive at Lenggong 4 hours later. It was my first time in lenggong and i must say that i love the kampung and lake scenery at Tasik Raban.

Tasik Raban is a mecca for IKAN PEKASAM ( fish fermented with grilled rice) and they even have their own PEKASAM NATIONAL CENTER(Pusat Pekasam Kebangsaan) here . Not actually sure its function but i guess it's some kind of institute for ikan pekasam. Not many people are aware that our federal government had declared Lenggong in 1999 as the center for the national pekasam production center and hence the formation of PUSAT PEKASAM KEBANGSAAN. Maybe in the near future our government will also form SALTED FISH NATIONAL CENTER,he he.

I was told that the best pekasam in town was PEKASAM WARISAN UTARA which had won the Perak State Pekasam Competition , i had bought 10 packet of pekasam warisan and i can't wait to go back to KL to sample the ikan pekasam.

After this will head to Restoran Nasi lemak Ayam kampung for dinner.

My friend suggested that i go to kuala kangsar to sample the famous kuala kangsar laksa and then headed to lenggong area to buy IKAN PERKASAM.My time is very limited in IPOH and i'm not sure how i'm going to cramp all the itinery into my travel plan.

Conventional MAP vs GPS

Nowadays a GPS is almost a neccesity if people want to travel . Almost all my colleague have their own GPS and most of the new high end handphone come fully loaded with GPS feature . But do people really need GPS ? .Personally i feel GPS had taken away the element of uncertainty in travel , which for me is the most fun part of travelling . Nothing beat the adrenalin rush of being in a foreign country where you have to find your own way to a destination. Being in these kind of situation actually train you to be calm and street smart - do what the local do and in no time you will not feel awkward being in a foreign land.
On most occasion , the first thing that i would do once i pass the immigration check point , is to take a very deep breath to calm myself and then be very observant in looking for street sign or any clue which would help you in finding your own way.Try as much as possible not to be KALUT just act cool.
To have a GPS while travelling oversea is not as bad as having GPS while travelling locally. Travelling with the aide of GPS locally for me is a very UNCOOL thing to do.Come on!!! , it is almost impossible to get lost in malaysia . I had been travelling all over the world and so far i only feel lost while finding my way in SHAH ALAM industrial area.
my advise :- throw away your GPS and use the normal map.Focus more on Xploring rather than travelling . I had stumbled upon a lot of interesting places locally and overseas while i'm ' LOST ' . LOST does not exist in my vocab , for me LOST meant opportunity to xplore new places. The destination does not matter but it is the journey towards the destination matter most.

I had an opportunity to watch this movie today with my wife at The Curve.Left Jr with my parent today and off i go with my wife to the cinema. It had been a while since i went to the cinema with my wife , 1 and a half year to be exact. We both enjoy our time together and it feels like having our date again.

Hmm... about the movie :-

2012 is a film based loosely on the 2012 phenomenon and directed by Roland Emmerich. The film stars John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt,Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, and Woody Harrelson. The film was distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver.

The film briefly references Mayanism, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, and the 2012 phenomenon in its portrayal of cataclysmic events unfolding in the year 2012. Due to solar flarebombardment the Earth's core begins heating up at an unprecedented rate. This results in a series of Doomsday event scenarios plunging the world into chaos, such as California falling into the Pacific Ocean, the eruption of the Yellowstone National Park caldera, shifting of the continents by crustal displacement, Megatsunami impacts along every coast line on the Earth, and the flooding of the entire planet. The film centers around an ensemble cast of characters as they narrowly escape multiple catastrophes in an effort to reach ships in the Himalayas, along with scientists and governments of the world who are attempting to save as many lives as they can before the disasters ensue.

Overall the plot of this movie was predictable from the start. If not because of the stunning visual effect , this movie would be plain . Honestly the genre of this movie had become a cliche and the genre of DOOMSDAY had been overused in most of Hollywood film. But overall me and my wife had enjoy this film and we recommend it to all.

Datuk Killed fleeing robbers

I read this morning news in THE STAR (please refer below) with anger and feeling disgust at this crime . Having personally experience my house being robbed by 4 armed robber early this year and 3 other incident at my neighbour house . I was lucky that nobody was hurt in that incident but it had left a very deep psychological scar to my family.I personally feel that the crime rate in malaysia had gone up.I'm not sure what the statistic says about it but generally the feeling that you can leave your door open at night and even in broad daylight like what i used to do living in KAMPUNG had become an urban legend or a myth.

In a press stetement by our home minister yesterday , the number of foreign immigrant in malysia had reach 2 million!!!.This is just not acceptable and i beg our givernment do something about it. Almost on a weekly basis we could see news report on crime that had committed by these immigrant , especially illigal immigrant. Not to say that all these foreigner are bad but it is a fact that they contribute significantly to statistic.

After the incident at my house , i had always kept a machete(parang) inside my bedroom .But i had always ask myself this critical question. How far would you do to protect your family?Would you killed a person with your machete as an act of self defence to protect your family?Would you sacrifice yourself to protect your family?

My answer is YES.........
But it's easier said than done , when someone puts a knife on your neck only then you will know what you capable of and i pray that day will never come.
KUALA LUMPUR(THE STAR): The former president of the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) died yesterday morning after he fell from the first floor of his house while fleeing armed robbers.
It is learnt three men who were not wearing masks and armed with parang entered Datuk Patrick Wong’s (pic) house at Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, at around 7pm on Monday through the back entrance.
At the time of the incident, Wong, 57, was in the computer room on the first floor, his 25 year-old-son was having a shower upstairs while his 18-year-old daughter and maid were believed to be in the kitchen. One of the suspects stood guard downstairs while the other two went upstairs.
City OCCI Datuk Ku Chin Wah said Wong could have struggled with the two armed robbers and leapt out of the window in a bid to escape. His son heard some noise and came out of the bathroom to check only to find armed men in the house.
“The son put up a fight with one of the suspects but was slashed on his right arm.” Ku said one of the robbers was heard saying that the victim had jumped before they rushed outside, dragged Wong’s unconscious body inside the house and fled.Wong was rushed to a private hospital nearby but fell into a coma and was pronounced dead yesterday morning. His body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.Investigations revealed the suspects had only stolen the daughter’s purse containing US$300 (RM1,018) and a handphone.
Ku said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and did not rule out the possibility that there might be another motive for the attack

I had just bought my ticket to Hong Kong for next year from MAS for travel in May 2010. Plus tax , a return trip to Hong Kong only cost me RM 850 per person. Do check out MAS website for more offer . Believe me the offer is just fantastic. My travel plan for next year is full as i had also manage to get some free ticket for local destination from Airasia as well.I'm planning to stay 2 night in Hong Kong Disneyland and another 2 night in Kowloon. It will be Xplorer Jr first trip overseas.

life is getting good as travelling overseas is cheaper than ever

Zoo Negara

Zoo Negara Malaysia is managed by the Malaysian Zoological Society, a non-governmental organization established to create the first local zoo for Malaysians. Zoo Negara is now 46 years old and have a total of over 5137 animals from 459 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.

Zoo Negara covers 110 acres of land which is situated only 5km from the city of Kuala Lumpur. Over the years, the zoo has transformed itself to an open concept zoo and currently still working in making sure that the old zoo concept is changed entirely. But due to the space limitation at that area i could see that it will be a very dificult task.Zoos all over the world are changing towards an open concept enclosures which mimic the actual living condition of the animal.I pity the big cat when i see their small enclosures , tiger and lion need more space for them to explore their territories.
As expected Jr was extremely excited to see the animal . The big and broad smile on her face as per the pic above clearly showed that she loved animal. But I guess that all kids loved animal.I didn't take much picture at the zoo as we had to cut short our visit due to the heavy rain.
I had been to zoo's in other part of the world. All i can say that ZOO Negara really need to improve their service and improve the living condition of the animal.I could see alot of improvement since my last visit two years back but it is still not enough.

Zoo Negara by Day is open daily from 9.00am – 5.00pm

Activity for this weekend

My daughter loves animal so much , the sight of a cat or bird will make her giggles and smiles broadly. When me and my wife imitate the sound of an animal she would laugh out loud.Due to this reason i'm planning to bring my daughter to either KUALA GANDAH ELEPHANT SANCTUARIES or ZOO NEGARA . Can't wait to see her reaction when she saw something which is very big (an elephant or giraffe) moving in front of her.

Fraser Hill

Hmmm... describing Fraser Hill is not easy.I had been to Fraser Hill twice and on both ocasion my intrepetation on Fraser Hill is like heaven and earth. The first trip was extremely boring while the second trip was marvellous.Fraser Hill had not change that much since my first visit there , everything remain the same except my state of mind.

Going there with your mind serabut and berkecamuk and after a few minutes walking around Fraser Hill inhaling deeply the extremely cool and fresh air - i bet my life that you will feel at ease and calm with yourself.I guess the fresh cool air , serene and calm atmosphere had a kind of OVERHAULIN' effect to your brain.Due to this reason i had decided that i need to go again to bukit fraser and spend the night there for the full OVERHAULIN' effect.

To tell you the truth , there is nothing in bukit fraser except mother nature. If you go there with a perception that it will be something like Cameron Highland or even Genting Highland , you will feel extremely dissappointed . I could see a lot of potential if our government CAREFULLY develop Fraser Hill as one of the top tourist destination in Malaysia.Again , i emphasized CAREFULLY develop Fraser Hill. I would hate to see Fraser Hill becoming another Genting Highland or Cameron Highland.

For further info and cool pic on bukit fraser , do visit MYLO website
